2020 VIRTUAL DAIKIN DEALER MEETING

/ WHY WE WENT "VIRTUAL"

Passive House Northwest is committed to following all local government recommendations that address health and safety during the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Our concern is for each of you individually and for your extended network of family, friends, and community.

Wednesday afternoon (3/4/20), and again more sternly today, Public Health - Seattle & King County updated their recommendations related to COVID-19 to include guidance to avoid groups of 10 or more people for the remainder of the month.

Based on these new recommendations, we regrettably must cancel our 2020 PHnw Conference next week. We realize that some of you still would have attended next week if we went ahead with the conference, however a conference that is part ghost town is not desirable either.

It breaks our hearts to not have our conference next week, but it would absolutely crush our hearts if anyone became ill as a result of attending. We are following the clear recommendations and advice from Public Health that to help stop the spread of the virus, events with 10 or more people should not happen in the month of March.

The conference this year was going to be our biggest yet and the second in a row that topped 235 participants. This year we had registrations, presenters, and vendors coming from 14 states and provinces: Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Montana, Ontario, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

The program and educational content in this year’s conference is simply outstanding, our best offering ever. We do not want and will not allow the following to be lost: the phenomenal education opportunity, the direct connection to the best products and vendors in the market, and the networking opportunity of connecting with old friends and making new ones. We are looking at options to reschedule the conference for later this year and/or other ways to get conference content out via various events during the year so that the value of this year’s conference is delivered to you.

Until we know what the total final cost of cancelling this event is, and until we decide how best to move forward with either rescheduling the conference or “repackaging” its contents, we cannot address the question of whether any partial refunds will be possible. We will keep registered participants informed.

For those of you living in the Seattle area, here is what Public Health – Seattle & King County is asking everyone to do through March 31, 2020:

  • Avoid groups of 10 or more people.

  • Telecommute whenever possible.

  • Postpone in-person meetings for the next 3 weeks and/or have them virtually.

  • Keep at least 6 feet away from other people when you can.

  • Practice excellent personal hygiene:

    • Increase frequency of handwashing, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds. It may seem like a long time, so try singing "happy birthday" twice to yourself.

    • Increase usage of alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

    • Cough and sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue.

    • Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth.

    • Clean frequently touched surfaces, like doorknobs, light switches, smartphones, etc. Regular household cleaners will do the job.

  • Stay home when sick.

  • Do not go to the emergency room unless it's essential.

People at higher risk should stay home / away from groups of people as much as possible. Higher risk people include those:

  • Over 60 years of age

  • With underlying health conditions including include heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes

  • With weakened immune systems

  • Who are pregnant.

In their statement today, Public Health stated: This is a critical moment in the growing outbreak of COVID-19 in King County. Together, we may potentially impact the spread of the disease in our community.

Please, everyone, together, continue to do your part.

We thank each of you for your patience and understanding.
